Kahulanui, Hawaii’s Kings of Swing, Bring Big Dance to The Shops at Wailea on May 30 Concerts at The Shops Presents a Hawaiian Big Swing Dance Night with Kahulanui

Wailea, Maui, Hawaii – (May 16, 2018) Kahulanui, Hawaii’s Kings of Swing, will take over Concerts at The Shops on Wednesday, May 30 for a rollicking evening of swing-dancing, toe-tapping, and finger-twirling music. The Grammy nominated nine-piece band will perform their fun unique Hawaiian-style swing tunes at the main Fountain Courtyard of The Shops at Wailea starting at 5:30 pm.

Kahulanui, meaning “The Big Dance,” is an inspiration handed down three generations. Band leader Lolena Naipo Jr. recalls stories of his grandfather, who was a member of the Royal Hawaiian Band during the 1920s and 1930s when horns and drums were an integral part of Hawaiian music. During that era and throughout Hawaii, one could find orchestras playing Hawaiian Swing and the house would be jumping. Kahulanui borrowed from these influences and now renders classic Hawaiian songs in a syncopated style keeping Hawaiian Swing vibrant and alive in Hawaii today.

Concerts at The Shops is a free, monthly concert series that is open to the public and features headlining musicians from all the Hawaiian Islands. This music event occurs on the third and fifth Wednesday of every month from 5:30 to 7 pm with performances at the main Fountain Courtyard.

The Shops at Wailea continues to give back to the community, supporting a different Maui non-profit each month with sixty percent of the special event parking fees going back to the non-profit. May’s non-profit recipient is Hospice Maui. The Shops’ goal is to enrich the community through exploration and discovery in the arts and music while supporting local businesses and non-profit partners. The four-hour special event parking voucher is available for $5 and can be purchased at the non-profit’s parking table.
