The Shops at Wailea Welcomes Kuana Torres Kahele For September Concert Series Concerts at The Shops Invites Patrons to Enjoy an Evening of Hawaiian Music

Wailea, Maui, Hawaii – (September 13, 2017) The Shops at Wailea is pleased to welcome talented singer and songwriter Kuana Torres Kahele on Wednesday, September 20, 2017 at 5:30pm at the Fountain Courtyard. Concerts at The Shops is a free, monthly concert series that is open to the public and features headlining musicians from all the Hawaiian Islands. This music event occurs on the third Wednesday of every month from 5:30pm to 7pm with performances at the main Fountain Courtyard.

Well known for singing, songwriting and genre-bending creativity, Kuana Torres Kahele comes from a revered lineage of Hawaiian musicians including: Bill Aliiloa Lincoln, Victor Kala and George Holokai. The recipient of multiple Nā Hōkū Hanohano awards, Kahele credits much of his success to Johnny Lum Ho, renowned Kumu Hula and esteemed composer, who took a young Kahele under his wing in 1991. Kahele’s musical history also includes connecting with Kehau Tamure to form the multi award-winning Na Palapalai, where they gained critical acclaim for reviving Hawaiian classics in addition to original compositions. Today, Kahele’s original “Ke Anu O Waimea” is the most popular hula song in Japan.

In a continued effort to give back to the community, The Shops at Wailea supports a different Maui non-profit each month with sixty percent of the special event parking fees going back to the non-profit. September’s non-profit recipient is Maui Hui Malama, an organization that transforms Maui’s at-risk youth into thriving community members. The Shops’ goal is to enrich the community through exploration and discovery in the arts and music while supporting local businesses and non-profit partners. The four-hour special event parking voucher is available for $5 and can be purchased at the non-profit’s parking table.
